WMCS obtained three quotations to demolish the club (varying from £50,000 to £80,000, with aspects covered or not depending on the demolition company)
Meetings were arranged with Business Gateway and legal advisors
WMCS made contact with other community hubs around Scotland
WMCS hosted meeting of local influential people to discuss project and spread the word. Some offered to fundraise through sales of football cards
April 2023
24/04/2023 CD Architects presented a community hub feasibility study, funded by a £5,000 award from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT)
(To keep the building costs as low and as manageable as possible, it had been decided that in the first phase of the hub there should be only one big, subdividable hall, with a cafe (and kitchen) alongside. Any spaces in the building would have to earn their keep)
10/04/2023 WMCS ran a successful Waterside Easter duck race, complete with egg hunt, Easter bonnet competition, face-painting, orienteering, and thanks to a local bowling club, corn bowling. The day raised over £2,100 while promoting the community hub project

21/03/2023 EDC Community Grants awarded charity funding for two laptops and a printer (£1,068)
Local historian/photographer Edward Z. Smith gave presentation on the hub and the history of the area at Gartconner Primary School
One class took part in a logo-designing competition
Logo competition prize-winners were selected at the March AGM
January/February 2023
Volunteers delivered leaflets and surveys around area, obtaining 318 survey responses from households in Waterside, Fauldhead, Woodilee and surrounds, with 97.8% in favour of having a community hub. Respondents also indicated what facilities and activities they would like to see in it
CALA Homes pledged to donate £5,000 in general project funding as well as £35,000 towards demolition of derelict club. The developer also promised to provide mains sewerage connection and landscaping help
