Everyone at Waterside Miners Charitable Society is shocked and deeply saddened at the loss of much-loved committee member and friend Marie Leese on 6 May. We are still struggling to believe it.

Marie had been a member of the re-formed charity since its start in May 2022, and had previously been a keen quiz-goer at the club, where her wide-ranging general knowledge was a great boon to her team. As part of the charity, Marie could be relied upon to volunteer for whatever was needed, whether it was giving out information and raffle tickets at the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival or the Waterside Duck Race, selling bric-a-brac at our car boot sale, explaining the project at St Ninian’s YPI Fair, singing carols, or being on the committee helping with decision-making.

Marie was a lovely, warm, fun, kind, thoughtful person, as all the comments on the different local social media posts about her passing bear out. She will be enormously missed in all the circles in which she moved – never making a fuss, just getting on with the job at hand with grace, charm and selflessness.

We should like to express all possible sympathies to Marie’s three children and three grandchildren, whom she doted on, and who must be reeling from the shock of her loss.

Marie’s funeral will be at Bishopbriggs crematorium on Friday 22nd May at 3.30pm.

Everyone is then welcome to join her family at the Gravity Suite in Kirkintilloch for refreshments and to continue celebrating her life.
